André Isaac is a project manager and executive member of ICChange and has been with the organization since 2009. He currently serves as the lead for the Africa HPV-Related Cancers (AHRC) Initiative, a program aimed at addressing the burden of HPV-related disease in East Africa through the use of innovative early diagnostics technology. He also leads the UofA-Moi Otolaryngology Surgical Partnership, a longitudinal initiative in conjunction with Moi Teach and Referral Hospital which aims to tackle the challenge of providing comprehensive otolaryngology care in Western Kenya. He has previously served as the Innovations Lab Director for ICChange, as well as the project manager for the Kenya Ceramic Project/CeraMaji from 2009-2013. Andre has received several grants and awards for his work, including from Grand Challenges Canada, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada International Development, Aid and Collaboration (IDAC) program.

Andre’s professional and educational background is in Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Global Surgery. He obtained his MD from the University of Alberta in 2013, and completed his Otolaryngology surgical residency at the UofA in 2018, after which he went on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Airway Surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He also holds a Master of Science in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. Andre is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the divisions of Pediatric Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s Hospital. His clinical and research interests are in paediatric airway reconstruction, and head and neck surgery in resource-limited settings.

David Janzen has been contributing to ICChange since 2014, serving projects such as the Kenya Trauma and Injury Project (KTIP), Kenya Medical Records Initiative (KMRI), and the CeraMaji ceramic water filter project.

He has thirteen years’ of management experience working in innovation projects and scale-ups in Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, Kenya, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Uganda, and elsewhere. He specializes in assisting organizations as they embrace “the future of work” where scalable technology platforms are married to scalable teams of knowledge workers. This can mean helping a new venture out-compete the established incumbents or helping incumbents as they seek to work more nimbly and integrate acquired startups into their organization. He also invests in startups looking to solve the exponential challenges facing us in the next century.

Dr. Harvey Hawes is a trauma surgeon, innovator and humanitarian dedicated to improving the health of people around the world. He is currently on staff at Vancouver General Hospital as an academic surgeon, and develops disruptive medical technologies and novel health care delivery systems in partnership with governments, universities and hospitals.

With deep experience in remote, resource-constrained environments throughout the world, Harvey has developed unique insights into complex, yet soluble challenges. Based in Vancouver, he serves as Director of Operations for the health systems nonprofit Innovative Canadians for Change (ICChange), and is focused on addressing technological disparities in resource-limited clinical settings.

As co-founder of Metric Technologies, he uses a multidisciplinary approach to address the global surgical burden of disease through expert-sourced innovation, creation of local sustainable business models and development of new manufacturing paradigms.

Harvey received his BSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Doctor of Medicine, and MSc in Respiratory Physiology from the University of Calgary. He trained as a General and Acute Care Surgeon at the University of Alberta, and as a Trauma Surgeon at Memorial Hermann Hospital with University of Texas at Houston. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and an adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Texas at Houston.

Phil Bach is a Urology resident at the University of Alberta. He has been involved with ICChange since 2010 and contributed with the early management of the Kenya Medical Record Initiative. He is currently pursuing a Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, where he hopes to continue honing his understanding of international development and healthcare delivery systems in resource-limited settings.

Byron Berenger is a medical microbiologist who is a member of the ICChange executive fulfilling many roles including providing scientific and research oversight for the organization. One of his major roles is providing medical direction for the Kenya Medical Record Initiative. He currently lives in Calgary, Alberta where he works with the frontline diagnostic laboratory as well as the provincial public health laboratory. He received his Medical Doctorate and Master’s of Science in Immunology from the University of Calgary and completed his residency at the University of Alberta. His interests include the use multi-disciplinary collaborative approaches to address problems, particularly those relating to public health, health care delivery and diagnostics

Idea: could set a biannual/quarterly meeting form them to meet and discuss/work on important advancements, or do an internal mentorship program where each advisory board member gets paired with a leader in ICChange that could use mentorship/advice
