ICChange receives third Grand Challenges Canada Grant for KCP

September 1, 2014

The Kenya Ceramic Project, ICChange’s oldest and most established initiative, received a huge boost forward this fall after being awarded a $100,000 Stars in Global Health Grant from Grand Challenges Canada (GCC). The award marks ICChange’s third grant from GCC, having previously received funding for the Kibera Medical Record Initiative (2011) and the Kenya Trauma and Injury Programme (2013).

The funds will be used to develop and expand KCP’s marketing and distribution arm, known as Ceramaji. The incorporation of Ceramaji as a registered company in Kenya will propel KCP into the next phase of development. The GCC grant will give Ceramaji much-needed capital to establish marketing and sales hubs in major urban centers throughout Kenya, and eventually other parts of East Africa. This will allow the ceramic water filters to by sold and distributed in remote communities with great need that have never before been accessible to us.

Stay tuned for more progress updates on KCP and Ceramaji!
